Privacy policy

What we collect when you contact us through this website, why we collect it, and what we do — and don't do — with it.

The short version: we only collect what we need to price your scrap and get back to you. We don't sell your details, we don't run advertising trackers on this site, and enquiries go straight to our own inbox — not into a marketing list.

1. Who we are

This website is operated by Perth Metal Recyclers Pty Ltd (ABN 29 151 124 382), trading as Perth Metal Recyclers, of 172 Barrington Street, Bibra Lake WA 6163. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean that business.

We are committed to handling personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us using the details in section 12.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to personal information we collect through perthmetalrecyclers.com.au — including our quote and contact forms — and to enquiries you make by phone, email or WhatsApp using the contact details published on this site.

3. What we collect

Information you give us

When you submit our quote form we collect your name, phone number, email address, suburb, the service you need, the type of metal, an estimated weight if you give one, whether you'd like the scrap collected, your message, and any photos you attach.

When you submit our general enquiry form we collect your name, email address, an optional phone number, your subject line and your message.

If you call, email or message us on WhatsApp instead, we receive whatever you choose to tell us — typically your name, contact number and details of the metal you have.

Information collected automatically

We use privacy-friendly website analytics to understand how the site is used — things like which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are located by country, what type of device they use, and which site they arrived from. This analytics does not use cookies, does not follow you across other websites, and is not used to identify you personally.

We also record when someone taps a call, WhatsApp, email or quote button, so we can tell which parts of the site actually generate enquiries. These are counted as anonymous events — the action and where on the site it happened. They are not linked to your name or contact details.

Our hosting provider keeps short-term server logs for security and troubleshooting. These can include your IP address, browser type and the time of your request.

4. Photos you send us

Photos attached to a quote request are used only to identify and price your metal. They are resized in your browser before they are uploaded, sent to us by email, and kept with the rest of that enquiry.

Please avoid including things you wouldn't want us to hold: photograph the scrap rather than people, and try to keep number plates, documents and identifying signage out of frame. If you send us a photo you'd like removed, ask and we'll delete it.

5. How we use your information

We use the personal information you give us to:

  • Respond to your enquiry and prepare a quote
  • Arrange collection, delivery, weighing and payment
  • Keep records of transactions and correspondence
  • Meet our obligations under Australian law
  • Understand how the website is performing and improve it

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We don't add you to a marketing list from a quote request — if we ever start sending updates, it will be because you asked to receive them, and every message will have an unsubscribe option.

6. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that make the website and our enquiries work, and only so far as they need it:

  • Our website hosting and analytics provider, which serves the site and stores short-term server logs
  • Our email delivery provider, which sends form submissions to our inbox
  • Our business email provider, where enquiries are then received and stored
  • Google, if you interact with the embedded map on our contact page

Some of these providers store or process data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. By submitting an enquiry you consent to that overseas handling.

We may also disclose information where we are required or authorised to do so by law — for example to a court, or to police in connection with a metal theft investigation.

7. Cookies and tracking

This website does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party advertising pixels. Our analytics is cookie-free.

The Google Map embedded on our contact page is loaded from Google and may set its own cookies when it appears. That is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.

8. Selling metal at our yard

Separately from this website, when you sell scrap metal to us we are required by Western Australian law to sight and record identification for the transaction. Those records are kept for as long as the law requires and are used for compliance purposes only — they are not used for marketing and are not connected to your website enquiry.

9. How we store and protect it

Information submitted through this website is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. The website itself does not keep a database of enquiries — submissions are emailed to our team and held in our business email system, which is access-controlled and limited to staff who need it to do their job.

No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure.

10. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry records for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any resulting business, and longer where tax, safety, second-hand dealer or other laws require it. When information is no longer needed and we're not required to keep it, we destroy or de-identify it.

11. Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it's wrong, or ask us to delete it. Contact us using the details below and we'll respond within a reasonable time. We may need to verify your identity first. There is no charge for making a request.

13. Complaints

If you believe we've mishandled your personal information, please tell us first — most issues are sorted quickly and directly. We'll acknowledge your complaint and let you know the outcome.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

14. Children

This website is intended for business and adult customers. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page, with the date it was last updated shown below.
